A paragraph develops ONE main idea through a series of related sentences. Readers generally look to the first few sentences in a paragraph to determine the subject and perspective of the paragraph.
You may have noticed that you can skim through a newspaper article by reading the first sentence of each paragraph.
Introductions and conclusions are usually written as separate paragraphs. The sentences in your body paragraphs may include citations from information sources, examples and anecdotal evidence. Centre for Teaching and Learning Contact us if you need help.
